Keesha, The Keeshond Hits The Town…..

Keesha The Keeshond

Keesha Getting Her Scrub On

Keesha from Pennsauken, NJ came in for her bi-monthly appointment.   With wagging tails and panting smiles, she could not wait to see me. I greeted her with open arms down on my knees, some how she feels my love for her. I pick her up and its off to the tub for her scrubby.

Bathing her is a process. Step one: wet her thoroughly with warm water, assess her skin condition for dry, itchy spots, matting of the fur (tangles), check for any critters that could be hiding in her mountain of thick fur. Step two: apply blueberry facial on muzzle, nose and all over her face. I like to apply around butt hole, to loosen up and stuck on poop and as that sits on the coat I apply to her with an all purpose cleansing shampoo that is hypo-allergentic and massage into the skin using my Davis Shampoo System. After i rinse off, and apply a shed-less shampoo, and massaging  it into coat with a rubber curry and then a slicker brush to loosen up her undercoat,  I rinse her with a high power massaging nozzle to get to her skin and watch wet loose hair go into my hair stopper at the drain. Step three: I apply a matching deshedding conditioner, that will shine, soften, and de-tangle any mattes. I use a furminator and a wide tooth comb to go through her thick coat and make sure it glides through with ease and does not get stuck, rinse and towel dry real good, next cover her ears with a towel that wraps around head so the sound of the high powered dryer doesn’t startle her. I give her hugs and love during this whole process, drying the body completely from head to toe and see the undercoat fly through the air….  When dry i put her on table and finish brushing, fluffing and combing as a soft warm dryer is blowing her coat, finish by scissoring her allover.

Keesha The Keeshond

Keesha Fluffy and Finished

She is happy, healthy and loved by me and her daddy! Oh yeah! Her nails were trimmed in tub and ears cleaned and teeth brushed, and this whole process is about 3 hrs non-stop.

Keeshonds need to be groomed on a regular 6-8 week schedule.  Their fur will quickly become unmanageable if not professionally maintained.  Owners who let their keeshonds go are often sad to find out that their dog must be completely shaved to the skin in order to remedy their unruly coats.  Trying to groom a keeshond that has a matted coat is basically torturing the animal and I’m not into torture.
